Marine first aid

do you need marine first aid and level 1 or is just marine first aid good?
For what?
If it's to do with all the courses now required by DOT, you need Marine Basic First Aid.
I just took it in Naniamo, it was just Standard F.A. with an additional 14 pages which included the Defibulator, Comas and stroke/Heart Attacks.

Cheers,

Transport Canada regulations allow for Standard First Aid OR Marine Basic First Aid. While TC 'wishes' you to have the MBFA you are still OK with SFA. The Marine section takes an additional 2 hour (+/-). If you have have the time or access, the MBFA is not difficult and is not much more money.

I had St. Johns Standard, they told me I had to take the MBFA, SFI (Owen Bird) set-up all my courses for me. Yes if was cheap $178.00 as I recall.

Just finished mine because mine expired, 165 bucks for the first aid course and 25 bucks for the Marine Endorsement in Courtenay at the St Johns. Was at a Guide metting in CR this week and SFI were saying your basic standard is still good with TC but only for 3 yrs. If you have your Marine Endorsement its good for 5 yrs with TC. So get your CDN # and get your Marine Endorsement its worth the 2 more yrs. Now there saying the Blue Sticker program is changing again next yr.

How are they changing the blue sticker program?

You know what alot of guys were confused about what SFI was saying about it changing, it is changing for sure but just not sure exactly how, it sounded like it will be optional wether u have the sticker or not? Or go through the whole inspection process?? Just hold tight it sounds like Money Grab time again?? Im starting to wonder wether its worth it to go through all this crap, but when the RCMP guy that was at the meeting started talking about the size of the fines for non complient guides I changed my mind. Plus it is a matter of pride in your job knowing u have all the Ts crossed and i's dotted.
