Lures and colours

There is a tremendous assortment of lure shapes and colours out there. Does anyone out there have a good grasp of what shapes and colours do what and what is the range of some of the species they imitate? SCVI certainly has an abundance of needlefish, anchovies, lesser amounts of herring. Pilchards? Squid? Does the usual colour charts apply - red thru indigo?

Right. Plus the kitchen sink. LOL

Or....green is for fish and everything else is for fishermen.

lol. id almost agree. I cant of course because then I would just look like a idiot for having so much tackle.

have to say blue or green all the way but Pink squirt/krill seem to work all over the place for everything too.

ya ive always been curious to that as well i know lotsa people buy stuff cause wow look how flashy it is. But what do most people have success with? Colour wise of course.

i find color is a lot less important than matching the depth, this being said... i prefer gold flashers when fishing for migratory springs.

you gotta remember that depth effects what colors are visible. fishing deep = more blue, flash, UV, White.

clear water = more natural colors,

murky water = more "flashy colors"

There should be at least one of the three... Glow, UV and scent.

And yes.. Green for chinook never a bad idea.

Last but not least, fluorocarbon leaders or they will see the mono and you'll never catch good numbers

I think theve always said it more the action then the colour. An old plug thats lost all its paint or a old scratched up spoon.. They used to catch fish with old kitchen spoons for petes sake so im guessing flash and motion (and of course right place). Im new to running bait this year so I was wondering about colour for teaser heads. I can see how mabey a flash of red on the bloody nose might look good but only if your fishing shallow since its one of the first to disappear. I know I had no luck with uv teaser heads ok with glow and ok with purp and silver. I definitely think theres a time and place for uv or glow or not. Esp shallow near shore.

SCVI bloody nose has been deadly to about 60 feet. Wether it is the glow? Uv red?

Is the red uv on the bloody nose teaser head? I thought it was just glow. I know ive had two different looking b.n's teasers. One didnt look as glowy and was didnt have the scale sticker which I think might have some reflector. Knock off or bad batch..? The uv's I never had luck with where the all uv clear davis purple haze and a jdf green clear.

If limited to only 3 lures I'd take the following:

purple haze needlefish squirt
3.5" cop car coyote
glow green anchovy head

If they're not biting on one of those 3, they just may not be biting.

true roll...at least it worked on feeders...:)
otherwise a 3.5 " mongoose, cop car or army truck coyot

Little Jimmy squirt for plastic lovers...

I've seen you mention this a few times before but I'm not sure what a Little Jimmy squirt is. Any pictures or URL's to point me in the right direction?
