LURE Paint

Man this weather is driving me nuts!!! The Spring Fever is packed and ready to go-WH or Nootka-whoever has the best weather hole. Got looking at a pile of old lures-brushed them to bare metal, primed and painted. Got some rustoleum glo in the dark paint-it's ok but the pizazz I was hoping for isn't there. I understand Michaels may have some but that is a trip to the big smoke!!Anyone got any ideas for other glo in the dark paints either brands or stores. Thanks

I bought some of the Glo Purple-which really does Glow Purple when charged up-like nothing you ever saw.

Too bad Salmon couldn't care less- I have never caught anything on the lures & teaser heads I painted with the stuff.

Customer service is excellent I had an issue with a can of spray paint and the replaced it right away.

Go for the White or Green Glo and forget dumb ideas (!)

For bare metal lures...especially BRASS...I spray them with self-etching primer first (available at auto parts stores).

I also use this stuff as base for lead jigs........it sticks pretty good compared to "primer" paint or enamel.

Then I paint the spoon or jig with enamel over the self-etching primer.

For GLOW:- ValSpar makes this spray glow paint which I was using for quite awhile. It was available at Michael's.....but Michael's doesn't carry it now. It was very good but it needed a top-coat of Krylon Triple Thick Glaze or Krylon Satin Clear.

If you can find a Valspar dealer they should be able to get it.

I looked up Valspar dealers and Lowe's is a Valspar dealer......BUT....the closest Lowe's is Calgary as far as I know.

theres a Huge new Lowes on the other side of the Queensbrough Bridge now ( Richmond Side )

Hey thanks guys-this is all Nogs fault-I have boxes of Dymara spoons left over from when I tested for them-so I started playing with the grinder waiting for weather and I wanted to get an Irish creme type colour-not easy to get a good glow-there are glow paints and then there are real glow paints. No I'm certainly not going into business been there done that-just killing time til I can go fishing and get hold of Nogs Needle. LOL. Thanks for all the help guys-I will track it down.

Spring Fever,
Flying to Comox from Calgary on Wednesday. PM me if there is something I can pick up for you.

Thank you-don't really know where you'd look. I'm after a small amount of white and green -true glow paint. Don't know of anything in Calgary but thank you anyway.

Springfever......I have never seen Rustoleum Glow-In-The-Dark paint...where did you get it?

If you want to make one side of a spoon into Glow.....in other words, the chrome side of a Green/White Coyote and you don't want to mess with paint.....

then go to Baker's Dozen on E-bay......he sells pieces of tape that you probably can't find around here and the shipping is free.

He has 2 types of Glow tape.....one is the crappy kind you find around here with the extra layer on it that always comes off and is pearl/white finish....

BUT....he also has straight GLOW tape which is a single layer and is VERY good.........It goes on very well, holds form and glows nicely when charged. It molds much better to the spoon than the crap kind they sell around here.

Prices are quite good.

Luremaking.com is a canadian company from Ontario and they will c.o.d. up to $500 I think. They have glow lure paints, spoon blanks, hooks, terminal gear, hardware etc...

Springfever.....if going "tape" here's what I mean :-

On the left is a spoon with Baker's tape on it.....and that 's a sheet in the middle.

On the right is a spoon with a half-strip of local Glow tape.

Has "texture" on it which I don't like.......and...as soon as you put U/V blast or anything else on it the surface layer peels off.
They use the right-hand tape a lot for flashers around here.

Hey thanks guys-Got the glow rustoleum from Home depot in Courtenay-comes in a little box and can-about 4 oz-actually not too bad,if you do several coats over white or over your old scratched up glow paint. Anyhow you've given me lots of sources and ideas-the sky is clearing-I made up 6 spoons and I have a bunch of new lights to test plus anchovy and the sea is flattening for thurs at Winter Harbour-will let you know if I have a super lure to brag on or just a fishing trip. I'll be sure to miss a 50 lber for the other thread on missed fish!!LOL
