Lowrance HDS10 Gen1 screen compatability

I have the Gen1 HDS package with Radar and I'm thinking about adding another screen so that I can seperate the sounder and leave the overlayed radar on the 10" on foggy(most) days in summer instead of split screen.I haven't bought the gizmo to overlay radar yet.Which screens should I try to find,I'm thinking used,that would be compatible?Does it have to be an HDS unit? I believe you may need to if you want them to talk to each other. Most of it has to do with software no a days.

I've looked into this recently and if you want to share data between the two (for example display the sounder connected to one unit on the other screen), I believe they both have to be HD units. You also need an ethernet hub and the appropriate cables. This past summer bought a Gen2 HDS5 as a backup for my Gen1 HDS8. I haven't yet hooked them together and I'm not sure I will. I'm wiring in a second sonar transducer so I can use either as a fish finder and I'll have backup in case a knock one transducer off running over a log. I have enough slack in the radar cable that I can move it between units if one craps out. I did the same for the transducer cables. I did recently buy the Point1 heading sensor that I need to get radar overlay on the larger screen so I'll be hooking that up in the next week or two. Each HDS is fed AIS signal from a separate VHF/AIS radio (Std. Horizon 2150) so with all the redundancy I have, I didn't feel a need to network the two heads together.

Correct the chart info and sonar image wont swap between the HDS and the LCX, just the stuff thru nmea0813 like depth, speed, gps ect

I have a HDS 12 gen 2 wired up front and a HDS 10 gen 1 in the back ... Had the work done in kelowna and could never quite get them the, working properly they share one transducer .. I can't get the screen in the back to show all the chart I formation I have on the front unit I'm suspecting this is because I don't have the gold chip in both units just front .

Currently looking for someone in vancouver area who can set these things up properly for next salmon season . I had the nmea2000 installed with Ethernet .

U need a chip for each unit..... If they were both HDS you could get away with just the one chip...

Prices are dropping on 2nd gen with the new Third gen touch screens coming out. I just got a point 1 antenna enstalled for overlay and it looks good on a 7 touch. I second Sculpin's recommendation on Harbour C. They have had used units kicking around and no one has more lowrance parts and knowledge.

One option in the future might be to upgrade to a new hds 2 or 3 and get the wireless to display the sounder on an iPad. I think I have read about it but my boat is a little small for anything other then a Navionics backup on my phone.
