We are starting to plan out our fishing season and would appreciate any info on accommodations in and around Notka Sound. I read some articles last year about Muchalat and it sounded like a great place. We require accomatation and moorage. Of course food, gas etc. any and all info would be helpful.

It was good before and has been upgraded. Has everything you need including boat launch. Longest run to the outside of all the places (about an hour depending how far past the lighthouse you go). Lots of fish inside late July/early Aug. After that there are still lots, but they get kinda booty and dark.

checkout the search function. Lots of options for launching at Gold River and boating to a lodge.

We are staying at Hoiss Point Lodge this year. It was the best deal we could find for the time we wanted.

Critter Cove is our prefered spot.
Launch at Gold River, CC has all amenities, great people.

I like critter cove but I don't like the gold river launch. For the number of people that launch in the area you think that they would have a better setup. I think that the launch is on Band land but if it was setup right I'm sure the band would make more money also. I have not launched there for over a year now and they may have made some improvements since then???

JAC,

Just curious . . . what don't you like about the Gold River launch? I've launched there for years and it's been ok. It's a bit steep and you need to huge the right shoreline on the way out to deeper water but if you take your time it seems fine to me.

Thanks holmes. That gives me a basic idea.
Realized I probably highjacked this thread enough. LOL
I'll shoot you a PM if I need more info.
Just starting to plan a summer trip and still in the investigating mode.
Have fished the inside a few times years ago and stayed at Cougar Creek but getting too old for that gong show now.
Looking to run the boat in and find some accomodations.

We've camped in a tent at Cougar Creek for two years in a row. Great place and people (in addition to the fantastic fishing). How is it a "gong show"?

Tuta Marina, Moutcha Bay, Chinootka Lodge ...

I stay at Tuta with Larry and Shirley Andrews. A bit of a tough drive in for a flat lander. Lots of choices at Nootka, and I wish Moyah Bay would set up again for another alternative. If Hanna Channel would re open as it once was, there would be close fishing from Moyah.

If all else fails, and you own a oil well, stay in Tahsis, and run down every day to Strange Island, or go through the cut to Esperanza.

Hoisse Point Lodge is an option as well.

Lots of area, lots of options. Cougar creek can be a gong show, as was noted.

We stayed at Moutcha Bay for two weeks a couple of years ago, when they were building the Lodge and the new driveway (the shot rock was hard on tires). It was good for us - very nice folks running the place. Lots of good fishing without going outside the Island. We had great fun after supper most evenings, playing ladder golf for beers, with most of the campsite involved. The Edmonton boys next door were hard to keep up with - partying until midnight, then up at 4:00 am., every damned day! They went back to their work-camp for a rest.

I moved the trailer down to the free, Leiner River campsite 5 minutes from Tahsis, with the boat moored at the marina 10 minutes away. We stayed there for 2 more weeks. Love Tahsis - a drinking town with a fishing problem! Getting our fish back home regularly was the biggest challenge.
