Looking for Ford Diesel mechanic Nanoose area

I have a 2008 Ford F350 6.4L diesel. Does anyone have any suggestions as to who is a good honest diesel specialist. I can go to the Ford dealer in Parksville but thought I'd see if anyone had any other advice.

I've been having problems every now and then with my turbo boost or lack of. It acted up twice in the past 3-4 months then seems to fix itself. Problem started when I excelerated strongly to merge into traffic. Engine stuttered and seemed to be starved for fuel, no power and couldn't get the revs up. I shut down the motor and restarted a few times and everything was good again. Similar thing happened last week coming back from Whistler. This time i pulled over and couldn't get going again due to low revs and no power. I ended up rectifying the problems by slowly building up the revs and noticed that the turbo boost was starting to build up. I was then able to get going again. Although it seemed like only 1 turbo was working as I still didn't have the secondary power. The next day I started up, drove around and everything was OK again and still is (that was 5 or 6 days ago).

Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated.

You might have a manifold boost pressure sensor that is failing.

Not sure u have a problem.Could just be going into regen, next time it happens ck your rearview for blue smoke it's normal every 3 to 500 mi.

2008 does regen, what is your mileage at? DPF could be plugging up which is going to create major exhaust back pressure. Delete kit will cure the problem and increase power and fuel econom, just drive it normally.

It does have regen (cleaning exhaust). I do not notice any difference with the motor when this is happening. The motor has 95,000KM on it.
I'm thinking that Gunsmith's suggestion might be the issue. The engine light did come on during the initial incident. I will have to take it in and have them look at it. Thanks for all of the suggestions as it's good to be armed with some info when talking with the mechanic/dealer.

I have a 09 and had that fixed a year ago. Do you see a bit of white smoke when this happens? Let me know as I have good knowledge on these trucks.

intercooler tsb
I had found the tsb for the issue of building up moisture in the intercooler and was wondering how many people had this issue. Mine has all the symptoms. has anyone else had this performed?
This is the tsb:

FORD:
2008-2009 F-Super Duty

ISSUE:

Some 2008-2009 F-Super Duty 250-550 vehicles equipped with a 6.4L diesel engine and built before 10/1/2008 may exhibit significant amounts of white smoke from the exhaust pipe while driving in high humidity or rainy conditions at temperatures above 40 °F (4 °C). This smoke only appears during a moderate to full throttle tip-in that is performed after a period of steady state driving.
ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE

This procedure only applies if the vehicle meets the following criteria:

* Concern is described as significant amounts of white smoke from the exhaust pipe.
* White smoke only occurs in high humidity or rainy conditions above 40 °F (4 °C).
* White smoke only appears during a moderate to heavy tip-in that is performed after a period of steady state driving (approximately 20 minutes)
* No diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are present.
* Concern is not a result of regeneration, a cleaning exhaust filter event.

If all of the criteria above is true, then replace the Charge Air Cooler Assembly with a new revised part per Workshop Manual, Section 303-12.

This cleared up my problems. I have 78000kms on my f350 and power train warranty is just about up and hope to install my we dpf delete exhaust this week. I also got the dpf chip only no extra power.

Hi Tigerprawn
I don't recall seeing any white smoke. Just seemed to be starved for fuel and sputtering while trying to accelerate. From the info you posted I don't think that I have the same problem. My check engine light did come on.

It is the same symptom I had. It happen after a rain event and high humidity and driving at low speed for a long period of time. Once I hit the hi way and excellerated it would do it.
Have it checked out.

Just had the diagnostic done on the engine and they (Ford dealer Parksville) tell me that my EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve is sticking. Will be replaced with a new style EGR valve. Cost $800 with tax.
I need one of those emoticoms with a face that looks like I've got a sore butt

"egr stands for exhaust gas recirulation , it puts exhaust gas (kind of inert as compared to air) back into the combustion chamber at times of high engine loading to help keep combustion temps lower, this reduces nox emissions, which are one of a few that need to be controlled for imission inspections"

Too bad they cost so much! Good to get the problem fixed.

Have you considered delete kit for the egr and dpf. From what I understand doing this sounds like it may save the motor from future failure, and with the gains of more power and better mileage than stock. Looking to do this to mine also. My friend just did his and said its a totally different truck, for the better. A lot of guys wait until warranty is up, but I kind of think what's the sense if it helps prevent motor blow up. Just a thought.

Delete it and you will never look back. I deleted mine 4 months ago and its night and day difference! Your fuel mileage will increase by 2 mpgs in the city and 4 on the highway. You will not cook your turbos and pistons with it goes into "cleaning exhaust mode" and you will not have coolant entering your engine when your egr coolers fail.

What does the delete cost? I have a new to me 04 service truck that the original owner religiously monitored the ph levels etc. but want to do the delete anyway's. I have heard upwards of 2 grand for the delete.

I'll get gear'n'beer to chime in. He's well read on this, and i know he just ordered the EGR delete kit for his 350. Definitely not 2 grand for the kit. You can save yourself cash if you do it yourself, for sure.

If you do the delete there are parts of the old system that are worth enough to soften the price of the delete.
