Long Weekend and no fish!

Now I am used to my boat, we went for a 5 day weekend on the boat with crab traps and prawn traps. We stayed asround Douglas Bay, Elkins Point and area. East of Elkins point we moored at a community dock. There was no crabs, no prawns and not even small perch etc, around the pilings. Nothing.
Why? There is no commercial activity in the area that could kill the area. There is nothing.

Across the sound at McNab Ceek there was some prawns at 300 ft. but they were young translucent prawns (15 of them ) and were thrown back. This was a result of the commies clearing the area out in early summer and nature is working to replenish the area. Crabbing at the south end of Gambier gave us many, many starfish including the largest starfish I have ever seen. But no crabs. Nothing. Checked the beach and there were small crabs under rocks so the area was alive. The following day found us at Douglas bay where we moored overnight. Put the prawn trap overnight at 290 ft and the crab trap off the rear of the boat at the dock Some starfish but nothing else. No crabs. the prawn trap was left through three tide changes and gave 4 large prawns only. Disappointing but what can one do.

My greatest concern is the lack of anything alive at the wharf by Elkins point. Anyone know any info on this or any of our lack of crabs or prawns
Thanks.
