little Q

when up to the little Q today and checked out the whisky creek pool just below the hatchery did not see any fish in there yet.

Big Q. Broke one off, lost another... then landed a sweet double. both over 20 # All the same gear and same depths as past years

Fished the Big Q on high tide change tuesday(16TH) evening - lots of fish showing - I caught 2 and other boats seemed to be doing pretty well. Last year the river gate was opened just prior to Labour day weekend and all the fish went up immediately- not much after that...if you are going to fish the Q's now is probably the time.
Wet Spot

I'm going to give the Little Q a try this year....in the past I've just never gotten around to doing it except once.

Guess that makes me a "newbie" for either "Q"

Could you help me out on tackle needed:-

Which hoochy
Which spoon
Which plug(s)
Which flasher(s)

and on hoochies:- how long is the leader from back of flasher to nose of hoochy?

Also:- best tide, a.m. or p.m., how far out?

At the Little Q they are messing around upstream diverting some water or something.....I don't know if they are finished yet....but will that be affecting the return of the fish as far as reluctance to go upriver?

Pink squirt on purple haze flasher with 30 inch leader and anchovies with a gold flasher are my go to. Fished 25-90 feet normally on or near bottom. First light, last light and the tide changes will cough up fish.

My suggestion is for anyone that has not fished the Little Q , to stand off a ways and watch how the tack is run. Be aware that the bottom comes up REALLY quick when you get close to the river mouth. And be nice and get the hell out of the way when someone hooks a fish!!!

Thanks guys...The one time I did try the Little Q it was pretty crowded there.....so I know what you mean, Cuba Libre!!

At one point we were jigging in tight to the river mouth.......and it was over-run with Pacific Cod...we got lots of those.

No-one was getting any fish although you could see them rolling and finning all over the place.

Thanks again, guys....

By the way......I don't yell "fish on!" anymore......it seems that if you do that you will be met by blank stares, as if you'd just yelled "fish on!" while talking Swahili. Right after that several boats will immediately head over to where you are playing the fish and drop their gear.
At this point it will seem like you and your boat have just vanished into thin air....no-one will actually acknowledge your presence. Other than if your fish tangles up in their lines. Then they will say " Hey! your goddam fish just tangled me up all to hell!"
