Lingcod minimum size

Not everywhere? If you have ever fished up the coast of BC, once you enter some of the zones/regions off the north tip of the island it goes way down im not even sure what it is but i was told by a guide up there its fairly small. Now im curious. Going to try and take a look later after work. If somone doesn't find it before me.

We were throwing back 4-5 pounders and he said those were plenty legal.

Taken from the Tidal Waters Guide

Lingcod length is measured along the body from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail. The minimum size limit for a lingcod is 65 cm. The minimum size limit for lingcod with the head removed is 53 cm, measured along the shortest length of the body to the tip of the tail.

the way I read it is there is no size limit in areas 1-10, I could be wrong.

So following the above analogy -where is the size limit for areas 20 thru 27-I don't see that listed or in the above table?

li
I'm wondering the very same thing.
Dave

This is a good question. You are right in that on page 31 in the Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Guide book it does say minimum size is 65cm head on or 53 cm head off. But if you go to page 38 where they have more specific regulations for each area, if you take for example Area 23- Barkley Sound it does not specifically say minimum size 65cm. It does make specific size limits and other management measures for other areas on the coast. So what regulation is right? I guess a phone call to DFO would answer this question.

In most areas of the inside of Vancouver Island it lists all Salmon species as minimum size. Lingcod is listed as size limit 65cm's. By proper English that would mean that everything over 65cm's you must throw back.

Good eye. Ambiguity, embrace it as a friend!

I always thought the size for lings was a minimum... now it's looking like a max size?

Get real people--- this thread is nonsense. Its a MINIMUM size.. but if you are a conspiracy theorist , just phone a DFO office

You're right Bryan. This one is getting stupid. Just keep your Lings over 65cm and be done with it.
Dave

If you dig through the rules enough you will find they have to be over 65cm's to keep of course. I had to stir the pot a bit as I have had this debate with friends and it's been more than confusing. Got a few of you excited, lol. Halibut have a size limit this year and so do Lingcod on the website, the wording should definitely changed on DFO's website to be more clear. Happy cod hole hunting everyone!
