What’s the simplest way to do a lien check on a private sale used boat?

ask a notary my wife works for one and she runs them all the time around $20 and you can pull 2 lien checks one on the vin and one on the owner as well

I would search the HIN and the serial number of the engine, assuming outboard.

I learned this from a used car dealer years ago. When you pay them, even the down payment, take a receipt book and have them write out the receipt with the vehicle info serial number etc on the receipt and that it is free of all liens and encumbrances.

You can also search the RCMP CPIC site that has a database for reported stolen property like boats and motors..

I took a picture of the seller holding my bank draft. Also wrote the above mentioned “free of all liens etc”. I also had similar verbiage when I e-transferred the seller the deposit to hold it.
