Leaving from Vancouver for a five day trip...suggestions?

My friend has a 24' Monaro and we are planning a fishing trip up the coast on Thursday July 11, returning Monday. We have been checking all the reports and initially we were thinking Lasquiti / Grants Reef, Sangster area.

It seems like the fishing has slowed a bit there, so if anyone could recommend an area to target later in the week that would be appreciated. We would really like to get into some fish, and he doesn't mind burning gas, so anywhere within 5 or so hours is doable...

Would we be better off heading to Sangster and then focusing on the French Creek / Hornby side or Powell River side of the Strait?

Thanks for your help...

Reading over the Sooke thread it seems like you need a PhD in DFO regs to fish there with slot limits, zones etc I would like to try it out there at some point but probably not this trip... Worth considering though if thats the best fishing...

If the winds blowing the Powell River side would be more comfortable but I think your boat can handle a lot. Powell River also has fuel and a brand new harbor for you to tie up at. That being said the fishing has slowed in front of Powell River. I would stick to the west side of Texada fish your way around Lasquiti then French creek and up to Grants. Lots of fish at grants still springs/coho and lings. Once your at grants your not far to Campbell River not sure what the reports are like over there. If you need any information around Powell River send me a PM.
Sounds like a fun trip!

Thanks for the info Leftcoast...that makes a lot of sense. I'll look into Campbell River as well. It should be a blast, hopefully I will have something worth reporting when we get back. We are also going to get some live herring at Secret cove and try to keep it alive to fish it off Sangster.

Fishing PR has not slowed too much, guys are still catching at Grants and the East side of Texada Raven bay to Vananda. 90-140 ft and green/silver spoons with a green flasher. Fishing off the mill to Sliammon has slowed a bit but the fish are still around.

Desolation sound... Beauty !!!!beach stop at savary.. Lake swim just before teakern arm.. Anchor up either cortez or head over to drew harbour( rebecca spit) nice anchorage!! And beyond......

Beach stop at Savary is right. The place is unreal. South beach is so nice but even more on a low tide. If you go there fish Iron Mines (just south of Lund) I hit some nice fish there last week.

Hornby has been hot this wk. tons of coho and some big fish deeper down. Green/silver flasher with an irish cream spoon has been outfishing everything including bait

Thanks for all the great info guys. It sounds like there are still plenty of fish around up there so that should make for some good times.

And I hear you about savary. It's been 25 years since I've been there so definitely excited about checking it out...

And maybe a Saturday night in Powell River for a few adult beverages..

I should be on the water at least part of the time you plan on being around here. You can try calling "FishWish" on 16 or 09, and I might have a report for you...hopefully a good one :)
