Launching @ Vanier Park? Roadwork 4th Ave Ongoing-Heads Up !

Soon lots more of you guys will be launching @ Vanier and you should be aware of the roadwork on west 4th Ave that's clogging things up and will be ongoing into July if not later.

Heading west along 4th Ave to Burrard is a poor idea lanes are closed and they're tearing things up like no tomorrow-better to use Broadway, 12th Ave or even 16th Ave to get to Burrard head north then make the usual turn before the bridge.

If there's an issue at all using this route it'll be crossing 4th Ave other than that it's clear sailing.

Using Cypress-one block west of Burrard and the street I live on-is a poor idea because the roadwork ends up depositing a lot more cars on sidestreets and things can be quite buggered up I'm seeing a lot of near misses and being as how Cypress is a Bike Route things are more interesting than ever.

Thanks for the heads up.

It's been a few years since we launched there due to lack of dredging, does anyone know if there are any plans for this to be done?

I launched there yesterday and at low tide it was nearly impossible to get my boat back on the trailer. I had to back way out with water halfway up the wheels on my truck then powerload the boat. Good thing I always have a pair of rubber boots in the truck.

Also, Coming from the east, I turn towards Granville island and make a quick left then head to Burrard. That by-passes the 4th ave turn and construction but can be tight if you are towing a large boat.

I,ve launched there a few times and need 4' of water at the stern, using the west launching which is deeper-been lucky I guess. Anyone know the min low tide is there?

If you have a F150-F350 with good tires...you can do it with less than a 7 foot tide. 7-8' of water is required on the WEST ramp. Otherwise...fuhgeddabout it. Going in is easy....with 4 wd to pull you out.

I used the east launch. I will be sure to check the west launch if I return at low tide again. My boat is 17ft so I was able to power load half onto the trailer then winch it up the rest of the way.

I'm used to launching at McDonald park which it fine regardless of tide.

One of the worst launches in the lower mainland I stay away at all costs!!! you think they would do something about it but they don't care. You have to plan your day around the tides when using this launch or put your entire truck in the mud and you better have a winch and or other truck with you. LOL The WORST.

Totally agree with CCB!! I launch at McDonald Beach and run around the corner before I will use that useless ramp. It's really only good at a medium to high tide. The ramp has no slope to it so you can't get the trailer in deep enough without submerging your vehicle.

one ramp at McD any better than the other? thanks for the info

Gentlemen, Looking to launch my 26' at McDonald beach this saturday... never launched before and will likely be pulling the boat out at med. tide... what kind of heads up can you give me?

McDonald beach, cates park and rocky point are all great launches at any tide. Obviously the more water the better but I have pulled and launched at all 3 at low tide 23.5 trophy 2359 sits high you will have no problem. Only watch out for people who don't know what there doing. Lol.

Thanks CCB was going to head the the T10 but havent heard any recent reports. Anyone else heading out? Any recent reports ?

Haven't been since Oct, but i haven't seen any problems at any tide on the South ramp. The North Ramp can get tricky.

No reports from the T10. I have fished down there before in the dead of winter and been plagued with shakers and undersized. Fish fast on structure regardless of tide. Steveston coast guard is close if you need to call Mayday....but otherwise no one else will be there to save your butt so be prepared.

If you do well for keepers let us know, and I'll spend some dollars and follow up your report...

Maybe I'll head to the QA...

Try around Caufield bay [just west of PT.Atkinson]this time of year, lost the spring of a lifetime over there.120 feet 6" herring strip...It spooled me to the knot and just managed to turn the 17 Whaler quick enough to regain 30 or so turns on the reel. The big spring showed himself moving fast on the surface like a porpose..spelling%&^ .Behind him was a full grown adult seal chasing him down..airborn and moving FAST.,what a sight.250 yards out.A couple more big heavy yanks on the heavy Trophy XL ..gone.My favorite herring teaser ..GONE

Opps ..just east of POINT ATKINSON..East or West who cares.I think they are an early Squamish spring run, could be wrong...good hunting.......Wild West
