I’m blown away by what is happening to our Friends to our south
I’m at a loss for words at points
maybe some smarter than me people on here can give some options for us to donate or who knows what ? I don’t

For now I send my thoughts and prayers

I’m amazed only five casualties so I pray it stays that way

Be safe everyone

Yep, and the insurance companies cancelled many peoples fire insurance earlier this year so they are screwed. Although it is kind of like living in a flood plain and not being allowed to get flood insurance, a fire like this was inevitably going to happen in LA.

Praying for the folks South. Painful to watch. Interesting to hear a couple of fire chiefs talking last night in LA. Don't have brush/dry vegetation around your property. I got into a battle with the City of Vancouver 2 summers ago about this very issue. They were letting the boulevards across the street from me come "free range'. Grow tall and die. Flamable as hell. I argued that drivers throw cigarettes from their windows and it would cause a fire. I had to get City Council involved because an environmentalist was arguing with me that it was better for the planet to let the **** grow and that pollination was more important than the risk of fire. I guess he was wrong because they cut the grass after I said a fire would likely burn most of the forest's around UBC. This was mid summer and it was hot and dry. **** happens and LA is a clear example of the risks we could face if we don't follow common sense rules.

Some of the carnage seems to be more urban and not all that close to brush interface. Like Lahaina in 2023, one house is kindling for the next in that wind.

Jamie Lee Curtis was on tv the other night and said the American Red Cross is helping out and would be a place to start if you want to donate. She is a spokesperson for them.

We often send our Incident Management Teams (IMT) down there for this sort of complex incident. Our BCWS personnel are internationally regarded as some of the best in the world. I've had the pleasure to work with many different nationalities over the years.

I guarantee we have folks there helping out. Stay safe y'all.

Good on ya. We had Saanich come in and do some firesmarting and brushing around our house. They were excellent.

Unfortunately it is just ideal conditions for those fires, really good growing seasons the last few years followed by drought and now the low humidity Santa Ana winds at 100 mph. Not much can be done to slow it down. The embers leap frog ahead so quickly the retardant lines are not effective. Fire easily runs downhill at rapid rates.
