I'm heading out to Kitimat in a few days, does anyone have any reports. I plan on going out past Hartley Bay, a little bit of fishing,a little bit of looking for the Kerode bear, and a lot of relaxing

Just got back from a week long trip at kitimat. We were 20 miles past Hartley bay, stayed at bottom end of Whale Channel. Lots of pinks and Coho around so had to work to find the springs but we caught 5 of them, caught 4 Halibut largest was 50 lbs, saw whales every day, Humpbacks I think, MK marina was a ZOO on July 4th when we got off the water, forgot it was a long weekend.
FYI, Hartley bay is open for fuel 7am to 7pm now.

Thanks for the update Melroy! Nice to know the Hartley Bay fuel hrs. Isn't it a little early for coho to be showing up?

We usually do our first trip the middle of June and you get a few smaller coho. This year (2 weeks later) lots of coho with a few over 10 lbs.

We are going back in the middle of August for a week, usually so many coho that it can be hard to get the second rod out before the 1st one pops off the downrigger. Also usually get a few pushing 14 lbs.

We pretty anchor in Barnard Harbour each night, fishing is good around the little island, we use a bunch of gas to get down there then not too much as you don't have to go too far for good fishing.

Good luck on your trip

Just back after a 10 day trip, no Kermode but a few blackies and 1 grizzly. Lot's of humpback whales. Fished from Bishop bay to Whale channel, picked up a 48lb spring and about 20 coho/spring mixed. Only one small halibut but maybe next time we can find a few more spots. Weather wise we had very little rain and nothing too windy. Looking forward to trying again in Sept.
