I was hoping to take the father inlaw and the brother inlaw out fishing Sept long in kitimat. I fished there last july and did okay, i was just wondering if it would be to late to go out in the ocean for coho. I have read lots of reports of people catching them in the river at that time, so i was thinking they might not be out front anymore. This whole trip is weather dependant as i only have 19ft boat. Anyways thanks for any general info on this, i love catching coho so i'm hoping there should be good numbers stacked up out front then.

During my time in Kitimat we fished the river for coho in Sept. Cant remember fishing the channel that late-- but there has to be some staging somewhere-- it might be a challenge to find them. Good luck

It has been a few years, but I think I caught Coho and Chum down to and around Coste Island at the end of August beginning of Sept. Best to get ahold of the tackle shops in Terrace and ask. I know in Terrace October on the Lakelse was prime for Coho. Good Luck.

Okay thanks guys. The father inlaw had to bail out but i still want to take my brother inlaw. He doesnt know much about fishing or how to so fishing the river would be tough, dealing with backlashes and such all day isn't much fun, and i dont think he'd get fly casting down fast enough to make it worth the trip. I'll keep digging around for info but i think we will still give it a go. Worst case scenario i spend a couple good days on the water with family.

serickson-- ignore my PM... I didnt realize you were just going to fish the Kitimat area ( maybe Lakelse? ). Something to consider as far as gear. For a complete novice a good spinning reel is more user friendly than a centerpin or baitcaster. And much quicker to get onto it. Good luck
