Now I am not going to stuff myself with these mushies until I get a confirmed id from an expert. But I would like to know what you guys that pick mushrooms think. I "had" two large patches next to my pond, but most have been broken or eaten by deer and slugs.

Let me know what you think ...

I am guessing Conifer Boletus (Inedible) Tastes bitter. My book says flesh white to pale yellow instantly changing to blue when cut or broken. The pores also change to blue and then quickly brown when bruised. The King B is normally found above 1000'. It grows under Conifers. The top is round but the edges hang down around the top of the stem. I am not an expert at all just reading a Mushroom collecting book.

OK look up Yellow fleshed Boletus. It is edible but somewhat tasteless and is the most commom Boletus in the Pacific NW. Says the cap cracls as it expands showing pink or reddish color in the cracks. It says none of the Boletus are poisonous but the ones with red pores should not be eaten. Sorry I didn't include this in the previous post

Appreciate the comeback. I will do that. The stem did have a little blue along the worm holes.. Interesting-- so much to learn. The patches are under a large Doug fir.

FYI several poisines strains of boletus bruise blue as well, don't take chances.
