Kelp fishing for Winter springs

Anyone had any luck fishing for winter springs close to kelp beds?

I wouldn't as you'll have a fair amount of incident rock fish and ling catches. Most of our winter springs are caught bouncing the bottom in 70 to 150 feet of water, and along contours on the charts.
