Jeanneau Merry Fisher 25 vs Cutwater 248

We’re considering buying another boat and trying to decide between a Jeanneau Merry Fisher Marlin and a Cutwater C248. Both are roughly 25’ long. The Jeanneau is about a foot beamier at 9’ 6”.

Can anyone offer any guidance as to the merits of the two hulls for fishing?

Thanks
Dennis

I think it depends on the focus of the boat, cruising or fishing?
The Cutwater 25 that we were on was a well laid out cruiser with forward berth, helm station, galley
and a very small rear deck. There wasn't a lot of design features to accommodate fishing.
I've never been on the Jeanneau but it looks much more appointed for sport fishing.
Not too shabby for cruising either by it's looks !

My buddy has a 24 Cutwater and loves it, the only thing he complained about was it porpoises on flat water, other than that it’s a beautiful boat fully loaded and does everything, perfect for a couple. Those jeanneau’s are a nice boat too but they have small fuel tanks, you will be limited in range which would be a big no go for me, you definitely wouldn’t be able to cross and go for a cruise in the states 🙃
Also at that price most guys on here would probably recommend something else but good luck either way!!

1 foot wider beam is like adding 3 feet to a boat. Gives you a lot more square ft to play with. Big diff in space and ability to move around.

True, although the cockpit actually seems a bit more crowded in the Jeanneau. Aside from any stability benefit, the main benefit of the added beam is more comfortable access to the foredeck.

I looked at both and went for the bigger beam. If you're comparing the Marlin though you're not benefiting from much of that beam within the cockpit.
