Japanese Harley

We ran into a couple Japanese floats this weekend offshore. Also saw some garbage but didn't check it to see what it was. Hopefully its not bad out there when it makes landfall.

Heard today that the Harley Dealer in Victoria has collected $10,000 and contacted Harley Davidson Head office and the bike is to be restored and returned to it's owner.

To restore means stripping and replacing all electrical. Then every inch of tubing will need to washed, cleaned and x-ray and replaced where needed. IMHO, I don't think Harley has any idea as to what needs to be done. Probably 300 times cheaper to give him a new bike. Perfect example of heart over head. Put this one in a museum.

At one point the debris field covered an area the size of California and was extremely radioactive. About half to two thirds has sunk. When it moves close to shore, we will not be able to fish because of it.

The cost of restoring it is nothing compared to the millions of dollars worth of free advertising Harley is getting from doing so. This story has been all over the international media; the Harley that rode a Tsunami. When they return it to him restored, the media hype and free advertising continues.

It is a symbol of what was lost in Japan and a mini-version of rebuilding the World Trade Centre. It won’t matter if it is 95% new parts that are swapped out and has a few token original pieces; it will be restored.
