Seems like Island West is going through a court ordered sale almost every other year. It appears hard to make a viable business out of it - I can't really understand why - the possibilities seem almost endless. We camp there quite a bit every year and whoever buys will have to catch up on quite a bit of maintenance.

so is it closed? and will it be open this spring? the website is up and seems normal?

I would imagine the taxes on that chunk is high and with the economy going the way it is and a short season I bet you its hard to make the money on it especially if it needs some TLC look at sunny shores in sooke used to be a booming business now VERY slow times are tough im sure you will see a lot more of this at other places as well....

I bet it is a really tough go to make it work.
With our $ at par and the US residents still trying to recover from the last recession there is no where near the tourists.

I say the sporties buy it and make it a free for all. The first night you can bring in as big as boat as you want, but in the second night your boat can only be 17.63 feet in length. The season will go from march first until the owners decide that that is long enough and then we close it. We can lease access to it on a seasonal basis to the commies.

I like it! But we have to get the federal govt. involved somehow to make sure it is a simple, smooth, successful operation that is sustainable over time - LOL!

I bet we can get the feds to provide us with a forgiveable loan to buy it outright if we promiose not to fish LOL

Buddy of mine has a place in Ukee for sale on the water with docks etc.No action what so ever.
If all an operation has going for it is fishing then the (formerly) Magic 100 Days won't do the trick any more.

You need deep pockets, serious marketing and a palette of offerings to attract warm bodies with fat wallets.

Its to bad its like that... Ukee is a great place to fish with lots of options both offshore and inshore... A nice town and beachs for the family... Tofino is a short drive away... Last few times we were there is was definitly quiet, even in July... Shame really..

On a yearly basis IWR seems to be on a rebuilt by current owners, then the pre-start on the fishing season. the following year They are up for sale

I would have to attribute this demise on the dwindling economy & lack of attendance. Started to see this when the guides started to base themselves at the Government dock 6 yrs ago. IMO
