Anyone doing this or is it possible? Was thinking of putting Chartplotter/Fish Finder, radar, linked to honda motor, and for second screen at rear steering have ipad for second screen?
I believe that the Lowarance hds units you can get a WIFI module that hooks into your nep1 or 2 and can be used to transmit the data from the chart plotter to an ipad. If you search the Lowarance site you should be able to find it there.
The new generation Raymarine also has Wi-Fi capabilities as well as Bluetooth and I-pod......Somehow I just don't trust a tablet on my back deck as a fish screen, so I opted for the additional head unit for the rear helm. Simple install of an interface cable sends all the info to the other unit.
I run a ipad for my main gps bought the $50 naveonics app. It uses naveonics gold charts.so far so good. I have a hds depth sounder but this is the first I heard that you can join the two
Doesn't look like this works with gen1 HDS units. If I'd know about this when I bought mine I would have waited although the price on that wifi module is steep they love to rip you off. I'd probably still pay it though.
I don't have it but it looks like it would be pretty impressive. I did do the software upgrade though and really like the new features especially the contour shading. Just have to set your depths and it clearly shows your target zone. Add that with the structure scan overlay onto the standard sonar makes for some interesting sonar logs. Depending on depth it can really add some impressive detail as to what the bottom looks like.
Probably a good compliment to an ipad on a boat, I went with the otterbox case for my ipad, but it has a few spots where the ipad is not protected as well as I would like.
