If ya can't tie knots...

Clinch knot (with a doubling over of whatever line you're tying) ---it's the only knot I use on my boat for salmon and the only knot I use on the river for steel.

Works for main line to terminal gear (mono) or downrigger to cannon ball or gangion (braid) It's quick and dirty, and pretty much bullet proof if you re-tie after a fish or two which you should be doing with any knot

I also use it flyfishing when making leaders (perfect for tying 10 lb test tippet (doubled over) to 20 lb test ---allows me to skip the 15 lb test I used to use in between ---for me it's the knot for all seasons, the knot for all fish, and the knot for all gear.

Always used the Trilene and Palomar knots, but the non-slip mono looks interesting.

Thanks for the link

Cheers

wondering the best way to connect my steel downrigger cable to the gangen (http://nikka.ca/store/product/7701/GANGEN-TWINE-#72-2LB-SPOOL/) I use for the last 6 feet leading up to the cannonball. the gangen is easy on the hands and I find that I can have the right length of gangen so that the knot connecting the two serves as a stopping. My problem is that something the knot is too bulky so hoping someone has a suggestion on a knot that won't be too bulky. I could use a smaller gauge of gangen I suppose but want to get away with as thick as possible.

It would be easy if you used braid rather than cable - any number of bends would make a good splice, leaving a nice, running tail to attach the release clip. With your cable a couple of double crimps might be the way to go, with a double-overhand stopper for the gangion tail. Other ideas?

Good site,Foxsea. I like how you can slow it down or reverse it if your having a problem learning a new knot.
