We always used our normal trout rods. worked fine for us. Fished many of the lakes around Kelowna that where open to ice fishing. As a kid we used to chop through 2 feet of ice on Shannon Lake with a hatchet to catch perch. Was good times. Used same rod all the time.
I have tried ice fishing but to tell the truth I don't find sitting on the ice all that appealing. Give me a fly or ultra light on a stream or small lake I am happy. A conventional rod does work but a proper tip up is much easier. We saw some on Monte Lake last weekend but looking at the ice I figured we would be hearing about a recovery operation.
