I Want One Of These......

Last week I'm at pal Peter's place next to Painters Lodge and we see this guy heading towards us from down south somewhere. He makes a big circle over the icebreaker Sir Wilfred Laurier then right above us, heads off towards the Spit then loses altitude until he's skimming along the water for a few hundred metres before powering up and heading off up the Campbell River estuary. Air-cooled engine and a rear pusher prop with room for some toys it looks like. Man I'd be having some fun with that thing for sure.

Take care.

I watched one when I was in the Dominican Republic and thought the same. How far could you get on a tank and how reliable are they? Definitely can get you into some remote areas but can it get you back out?

He's flown over us in Sooke for a few years now.

Smile and wave, its DINO in their new sport fishery patrol cross over vessel. Only cost them about $2 billion to develop and test. :p

Ya I saw it too, and I'd read about them before. Kind of neat, but I bet it would feel pretty unsafe at 10,000' doing 40 knts.

Yeah he used to go from sunny shores he is quite a caracter if its the same guy his hands are a mess with graphs and stuff cause he had another plane that didnt fair to well and he crashed it and his hands took the grunt of it flipping them over and wrecking the backs of them, i used to talk to him all the time very cool and interesting fellow

Thanks for the responses.
I'd not seen one in operation before so was quite interested.

Oh, it's not a jet boat ban on the Gold there Holmes, it's a powerboat ban.
All powerboats. LOL

Take care.

That's funny. They should have put a glass bottom in it so that they could get more accurate counts of the number of sporties fishing. Then again I guess that they could always land and pull up along side and actually count the number of fish that each boat really caught instead of guessing at it.:p

DFO is always playing "Glass bottom boat"

I saw this guy at Sunny Shores about three years ago. He was out flying, landed, docked the glider, pulled off his motor bike helmet and then went and moved his truck to the boat launch to pick up the glider.

He got back to the glider, start up the engine to move it to the boat launch and then his helmet rolled off the seat and back into the propeller and bang the propeller blades and helmet exploded in all direction. The engine instantly stall, the prop blades were chopped in half and the canvas looked like someone shot it with a shot gun.

Luckily not one was injured.

They go by the name "FIB"s or flying inflatable boats, for your google searching pleasure, or youtube has some great videos that make you go 'huh'. They are big in New Zealand I believe. I can't imagine the sensation of being in a flying boat, something not quite right about it...
