FROM MURPY'S

Here is a link of Luke and Alan fishing Squid in Kyuquot a few months ago. They go out ten miles in the middle of the night with a generator and a big light. The clips are relatively small but you can get a good feel for what is going on. Squid videos The third clip is one of the funniest things I have seen in a while.

I think that alarm in the background was his high water alarm...while they were playing around the little buggers reached down there with their tenticles and yarded out the bilge plug.:D:D

10 miles in the middle of the night! That looked like a dark night too. Wonder how they keep an eye out for logs on the trip back in...?

These guys are both used to being out there in the dark, as they both have spent a lot of time drifting around out there in commercial boats. In the hour that they spent out there they caught about 25 squid. The location that they picked was just random on the 50 fathom edge and they caught there first squid in about 5 minutes. Myself I would have waited for a calm night.
They were having a blast at first but the aftermath of squid squirting ink all over the boat has kept them from going back.
I think is about the 8th of August when we caught our first one trolling out there. I remember the first one as I wasn't sure what I had. It was super heavy and when it came to the surface I could see why, it had a 6 foot blue shark hanging off the back of him. My next 4 bites where all squid and it was good couple hours with out a spring bite.
I think these squid are a very smart predator and hopefully the water turns cold again before they can do any damage.

the fact they were that far north is really bad news. it is another indicator that the oceans of the world are really screwed up. when they could not find their dinner in their tropic waters, here they are. their presence is something to get worked up about as they are one of the oceans most efficient predators eating anything and everything they can catch, including anadramous fishes.

i guess we will never learn to protect our resources but must instead exploit them until they no longer are viable, stupid human beings..............

Ha ha....that's awesome! Luke is my buddy who I fish with in Kyuquot when I am up there; haven't met Alan but Luke grew up in those waters and knows them very, very well. He has buzzed me that he had 'tried' fishing for squid and said it was hilarious and VERY different.
