Humbacks & Pacific White Sided Dolphins - my Georgia Strait Crossing on 12/13

Edit - the dolphins appear to be Dall's Porpoise's and not white sided dolphin's...

I was crossing yesterday from Vancouver to the Porlier Pass area and could see what first looked like waves crashing a shore on Valdez....it was calm out with no wave height whatsoever. Upon closer examination we we treated to a 15 minute humpback whale show. We stayed back to not interfere with their movements but they did get close to us and we had to move back a few times. The pictures were taken from our iPhones.. then on our return we spotted some dolphins and stopped the boat and they jumped around, swam under and played around our boat for 20 minutes... The humpbacks were just outside of Porlier heading towards Thrasher and the dolphins were out in the strait in line with the T10 buoy (but further out). The dolphins are fast and the pics do not do justice - videos were better with them.

Cool. Was en route to Pender Saturday morning and saw a good sized pod of dolphins too.

Get in touch with the Van Aquarium "repoprt a sighting". Saw a humpy out off Pt Grey during sockeye season and they very much appreciated the report. Sightings@vanaqua.org

Or there is a submission form on their website too that asks specific questions.
