How to lose fish

Word of warning replace any of these hooks shown below... This is the worst design for a hook and it weakens the material with the flat bends. These hooks come on a lot of Silver Horde stock coho killers and spoons... I snapped one on a pretty good fish a few days ago. absolute junk hook. Other people have had same problem... I don't recommend them.

True... The hook made by Muzzro ( sp?) I dont like the type of the hooks. I always replace the mustad hooks or better quality hooks on it before the spoons/ coho swim in the water.

It's not the hook design that is the problem, it's the quality.
I use the same hook made by Gamakatsu and never had a problem.
they seem to hold fish better than a J hook.

Took the words right out of my mouth. It's the quality of the material used to make the hook, not the bend on it's own. I've used the Gamys for a while now and have yet to break one. The Matzuo on the other hand are indeed of cheaper quality and do break quite readily, especially if you are going smaller on hook size for increased hookups.

Yes...it's the quality moreso than the design. I've bought Matzuo open eye hooks in that type before.....and every single one snapped on the crimp. Too brittle.

The design will hold fish....but I've looked at that design and I don't see how the offset angle allows any better holding power than a normal open eye Siwash.

I would argue that a deep cup Siwash will hold better than that design.

Last year i watched my buddy lose a monster fish right at the side of the boat, those hooks fail prematurely right in the V , i usually replace them
Right of the package now with a Mustad #3 or #4 open eye siwash...too bad really because im sure lots of people pass up the silver Horde spoons for one with a quality hook right outta the box.. TKO spoons come to mind as a spoon that comes with a good hook ...their doing it right!

I've honestly had good luck on those matzuo hooks. I have noticed that they do lose their sharpness pretty fast after a couple of fish though. I haven't had any failures though.

Have seen more then one break right in the crotch of the V , it is only a matter of time until one breaks on you, they will catch fish but it is a poorly designed hook
