How Many Downriggers do you run?

I fish from an open boat with tiller steering. When alone l will generally fish two downriggers in a small tide with calm waters. I put the portside one out first, straighten the boat out and then do the starboard one. If the tide is really pushing and l am fishing more then 200ft, l will bring in the port side, as l have found that tangles result if l don't. I also will use a dummy flasher if only using one rod and downrigger. With an experienced companion, we always run two downriggers with theirs stacked and mine running a dummy flasher.

I almost always run two downriggers and depending how many people are on the boat, I stack on one side or both. Usually the, only time I run one downrigger is if I am by myself and fishing sockeye. I will stack two rods on one rigger with a dummy flasher setup as well. Seems to work better with several flashers vertical instead of side by side with two riggers.

I have run 4 riggers double stacked with 8 rods total or 6, outside riggers double stacked. Usually with 8 I was flying all commercial spoons and/or plugs. no flashers makes getting gear out of the way easy.

However, 6 rods on 2 riggers is also effective....flashers or no.

2 riggers, 2 rods stacked each side is more than sufficient of there are fish around.

If Chinook fishing If I am by myself one...With another person run two.... I only usually run two by myself if I am hunting coho or pinks... Lost too many fish trying to be hero and run to much equipment at once.
