How many boats........

Thought I would start a thread that can test some of you old guys memories! :p Relive those memories.

How many boats have you owned? What were they?

I bought my first boat in the summer of 2008. 1980's 14' Sangster fiberglass runabout. No top, no downriggers, soft floor, and a 2002 F60 Yammy. Lots of power for a little boat. Learned how to fish slip weights and planer boards off Victoria and Sooke.

Summer of 2010 I "upgraded" to a 1980's 16' Starcraft riveted aluminum bowrider. Bimini top, fish finder, kicker, manual downriggers, and 2005 F50 Yammy. Pretty roomy little boat since the bow was open. Fair weather boat only. No real protection from the wind. Caught our first halibut and chinook on this boat. Learned to anchor in this boat. Took it on some surf / camp trips off the west coast.

Fall of 2011 upgraded yet again to a 1996 16' Arima Sea Explorer cuddy. 2002 F60 Yammy. Biggest little boat I have been in. Upgraded to electric downriggers and gps/sounder combo. Also have much more safety features.....vhf w/dsc, reliable kicker, better design for rough water, protection from the elements. Very happy with this boat but already dreaming of my next upgrade. 19' Arima Sea Ranger hardtop. This may take a while though. Maybe I'll have to settle on a softtop.

Your turn........

Grew up in Departure Bay and the folks always had boats.

My first boat that I owned was a 16.5' Cope welded aluminum "cuddy". These were rare. The "cuddy" was nothing more than a raised deck at the front and just had room for storage and you wouldn't smack your head crawling up there lol. Great little boat that I took 7 miles off Beale and Tofino catching everything from halibut to salmon in.

My second boat is my current ride that I bought 6 years ago. Time flies. She is a 23' with a pod Edwing built in Chinook Washington. Purposely built for the Oregon tuna sports fishery by the original owner. I love this boat to death as many of you can tell by some of my threads and posts. I treated her rough to begin with but have been looking after her lately.

Great thread Dave :).

I went away to university then finally moved back to where i grew up in 2009 and got a 2000 campion explorer 492 with a 80hp 4stroke Yamaha great little boat sold that in sept 2011 and in may 2012 got my current boat a 1998 double eagle 176 with a 2008 150hp etec with 8hp Johnson kicker. There's a guy who can't make up his mind!

If he did he wouldn't be able to afford that many boats. A one woman man would be my guess. Either that or each boat represents an ex wife but we don't want to even consider that thought!

-had a 14' Thornes aluminum from when I was 12 until I left home at 19 (was actually a loaner from my parents)
-12 year gap until my 17' Sea Ray purchased in 2006
-2008 bought a 19' Blue Water (1992)
-2009 bought a Trophy 2159
-2011 to present 24' Sea Ray Sundancer

I think I'll have this one a while ;)

This is what it has been for me:

Growing up:
- 18 ft Starcraft cuddy cabin with 100 Merc (fast boat back then)
- 26 ft Bayliner Victoria cabin crusier with a 454 Waukesha (thristy engine)
- 2 man pioneer fiberglass kayak
Later on:
- 16 ft. cedar strip canoe (hand built by father in law so can't get rid of it)
- 2 belly boats
- 16.5 ft K&C Thermaglass runabout with 75 Merc (first power boat)
- 20 ft Silverstreak Hardtop with 130 Honda (will keep this one for a while!)
- Next boat: 24-26 ft, with a enclosed cabin, galley, sleeps 4 and able to cruise around on for my retirement

Hopefully the price of fuel will stay affordable for a while yet, or I'll have to move to a sailboat!!!

HM

My first boat was a 12 ft. tinny with a 9.9 Evinrude in 1978. Fished Cowichan Bay and did quite well out of it,but had to
pick your weather.Moved to Sooke in 1983 and upgraded to an old 60's era 14 ft. fiberglass with a matching 25 hp.
Merc. Did well out of it too,but still had to pick your weather. Next was a 15 ft. K&C with an 85 hp. Evinrude. Much
more seaworthy boat, but soon 2ft. itis crept in and bought a 17 ft. Fiberform with a 100 Merc.Held on to that one for many years, but while moored up in a late fall storm,it turtled on me and was a complete loss.Saved my money for
a while and bought what I have now,a 16.5 ft. Double Eagle with a 115 Evinrude. By far the best seaworthy boat
I've ever owned, and will be hanging on to it for the forseeable future. My dream boat would be a 23 ft. Hourston
podded with a 250 Etec, but unless I win the lottery or somethin',it ain't gonna happen!
