hey there i have just finished my new creation of a live well built in a cooler. i think im going to use this for either crabbing or prawnning or wat ever. im 16 and i was pritty bored so i created this. i used a 360 bilge pump and some hosing and a pvc pipe with a cap on the end so the water can go through the drilled holes in the pvc pipe.

I friend of mine has a similar set up except the pump is mounted temporarily on the transom below water line and is used to feed the cooler with a hose that runs into the cooler. He then used a thru hull fitting and drilled and mounted it near the top of the cooler. Off the thru hull fitting he has a piece of garden hose that drains into his slashwell. He turns on the pump every 10-15 minutes or so for a couple of minutes and it flushes the water. Crabs **** themselves so you want to exchange the water frequently. Just food for thought.

Cool project.

I built one of those using a little smaller cooler many years ago as a live bait well
back when we use to mooch with live herring,
strapped it on my swim step worked perfectly for that.
as a matter of fact I stumbled on it burried in my junk pile and was just about to toss it I simply have
no use for it anymore

yes i also got a jabsco pump gaurd staright lineer or something i forget wat its called but it filters the water
That filter probably just prevents any debris from getting into the pump but won't filter out all the toxins that build up from whatever life you put in there. Fresh water from the sea is definitely the key to keeping things in good condition for a long time. If you just recirculate the same water they will probably last 2-12hrs in there depending on how full it is of water / creatures. Still looks like a decent project, watch out for water temperature too if you use it in the summer where again fresh water will keep the water temperature just right.
