Same here. My Dad however would buy the jars of pickled herring and we would pull the tooth picks and cut strips out of the brined herring lol! It worked back when Active Pass was on. Havent tried it in recent years but I did buy some chartreuse strip heads for a laugh.

Gon fishin and others. yes it works just fine been using it all winter the guy cutting it is getting better and better and it comes brined already.

The pieces i bought were kinda small, i am going to try them in my Rye Davis tiny strip teaser.... Hope i can keep all the p-cod off em ...

Cut your own for less than half price and save yourself the trouble.

Buy a pack of large or medium herring from Rhys Davis. While it is just partially thawed, use a SUPER sharp knife and cut the angles and lines of the strip on the whole herring on each side. Fillet the strip off the carcass. Ready to use. Insert into the strip holder and fish away. If you want to get fussy, do mirror image reverse cuts for the angle on each side.

If you are really bored, do this...or if there are few fish around and you really need to capitalize when your gear may be eyeballed by just 1 to 3 fish all day.

Before Coyote spoons really hit the market in the late 90's...strip and firecracker herring was gangbusters and a great way to get excellent mileage out of a pack of bait.

X2 this is what we do

Apparently it's made by Black Label Bait in Victoria , B.C.

They have a Facebook page...which is where I discovered they make Mini-Strip too out of real Herring.

Wolf...were you using fullsize or mini?

full size and it did catch fish first batch I tried it was ok but then the the second batch was way better,

Still make my own from time to time with large herring, trolled in holders of various types, or double hook at the front behind a flasher or dodger, or mooched. Very effective old school. Two baits per frozen large herring, even used to use the belly part to simulate needle fish and ya worked well .

Buddy of mine had a little jig he used to cut the proper angles of the strip. Has anyone seen one of these? and if so, where?

I bought the tiny strip, but could be going back for the larger variety also

back when strip was around, it was the tiny strip that really performed - perfect needle fish imitation. Never had luck on the big stuff myself...

What's it cost for a pack?

I cut the strip in half and use the tiny teaser ...

think it was around 3.50 4.00 bucks, its worth given er a go im sure , find out this weekend.. I like the idea of cutting them in half .. try that with the next pack.

got tired of anchovies...I tried using different method for trolling out in Sooke with herring strips...well, they are still productive in our waters in the summertime.
