He'll probably think twice.

Everybody here abide by the speed limit on the road? Or is it only certain rules or regulations apply?
I will stand by the rule that everyone has broken some rule or law or regulation at one time or another.

pretty big difference between fudging the rules a bit and out right ripping off you employers and crew.. I think this guy got off easy.. there should have been a mutiny..:p

Problem is you mess with your captains ways you will never find you self working on another boat.

Example, I worked for John Doe on the ::::::::: it was great.... But he was a thief and a poacher so I'd like to come work for you...... I reported him to the authorities......Your hired.... Ya right

Oh for sure the worst thing you can do well trying to find another job in any industry is badmouth your previous employer, pretty sure he hand picked his crew for the fact they had no clue how the money end of it worked. Maybe " John doe was a great boss, I feel really bad I was in my bunk when he fell of the back of the boat on our steam in.." I can understand making a living as a commercial fishermen would not be at all easy, but hand picking your crew with foreign workers you can rip-off is pretty shady. I would have not lasted long on his boat that's for sure. I have lost jobs before because I was not afraid to stick up for myself..I've been canned more then tuna..:p

truth is 90% of the commercial fleet has a rape and pillage attitude. Hell I've heard plenty of stories of sport guides laying out long lines at the end of the season for "take home".

After working on and around salmon fishery for over 30 years, and 3 years as a salmon sector boat observer after I retired , I have no trouble believing what FA said. Too many examples to mention here of some of the BS that goes on in the commercial fleet. I dont characterize the whole industry as cheaters, but neither do I accept excuses that "Oh-- it only happens rarely!"

I didn't cheat but our captain did. As I posted in another thread a few months ago. Once we had off loaded and the cameras and gps module was removed from the boat it was normal practice to set out a few hundred hooks for take home. The captain had buyers for days coming by well we cleaned up buying these fish. Not only did I not even get a fish to take home the guy only paid me about 25% of my wages on my last trip with him.

So this guy was working quota that he was given, he also owned the boat and ran it. Plus he worked a deck spot and took a extra share for doing so.

Now before you say that was just one boat.....Nope not true I worked on other commercial boats and have worked with a wide assortment of deckhands that have also been on other boats seeing the same gross act of illegal fishing by commercial fishing boats and their owners and captains.

I,m sure there is the 1% in every biz , but i think your dramatising this for what ever reason.
I,m a sport fisherman and was a salmon troller , halibut longliner for over 35 yrs , and i totally disagree with your post.
No quota holder in his right mind would ever risk losing his quota by taking illegal fish.
As a matter of fact FACT, the commercial hook and line industry is the most honest fishery in the WORLD.
Camera's on board , dockside monitors and validation and every fellow longliner I know counts and registers and logs EVERY fish.
so as the other poster says .... name them !!!
and or stop bad mouthing the model fishery in the world that we should all be very proud of.

Coldest time to be up here! Even worse I have a cow elk tag and we are hunting next week. Brrrr!

Funny thing is I fished with this guy as a kid and remember he had a problem paying crews and keeping promises what a slimeball. Some things never change
