Hello,

I am visiting Vancouver for a few months and was trying to find headboats for salmon or halibut fishing around here. On the Web I only found charters. Can anyone give me a link or phone number to a company that takes out headboats/partyboats and not just private charters?

It would be much appreciated, I was hoping to go this weekend.

Thanks so much,

Eva

Eva, when you say headboats ????? If you want to rent a boat for fishing that you operate you have Sewells at Horseshoe bay in west vancouver, they will rent boat and all the gear required. If you just want a boat they rent them at Granville island boat rentals

MAKE SURE TO BUY INSURANCE

Eva, There are no "head boats" here on the west coast except for the Canadian Princess in Uclulet that I know of. For those who don't know what a head boat is, it's a large boat, usually over 35 feet, where anglers fish while standing along the railings. You pay a relatively small amount as there are usually 20 plus anglers aboard, each with their own rod. Rods, reels and bait can be rented. The Oak Bay Marina used to have one in Victoria decades ago and they did a pretty good job of reducing the local Ling Cod and Rockfish population.

Your best bet would be to contact the local charter companies and ask to tag along on a charter that is not full. I have done that in Hawaii, for marlin fishing.

You save money and meet some cool people. One of the most hilarious days of my life was sharing a boat with 2 hill-billys from Virginia. One of them had just won the lottery and got on the plane to Hawaii with just the clothes on their backs. I drank a lot of Bud and jack Daniels and laughed my butt off.

Bonnie Lee does shared charters. The site is down try

The reason that party/head boats never took off here is that bait fishing for Salmon doesn't work all that well any more, trolling all that gear is awkward plus too few fish and not enough fishermen.

Sewells Marina had a bottom fishing boat years ago once they had scraped the reefs in Howe Sound clean they went out of business.

There are said to be a few party boats that specialise in bottom fishing operating around the Gulf Islands the one that I saw was 100% Chinese clientèle a real junker I mean a scary looking barge rusty and unsafe.

Hmmm would this be the blue alum. boat with the 200 hp honda on the back that fishes Active Pass ?
I dont know how they make any money when the limit for Rock Cod is 1 fish per/person ,per /day.
