Harbercraft 1925

Hi all, I have a question and I am in need of opinions. At the moment I have a 16.5 foot lund boat with a 7 foot beam. So far so good but with the amount of room I have I am looking to upgrade. I need the boat to be on the lighter side since I have a half ton pickup.

At the moment I am looking at the 50th anniversary addition 2009 Harbercraft 1925. This boat is $31,000 including a trailer and a 90HP Yamaha. Add another $1000 for the 115HP Yamaha upgrade.

Anyone have one of these boats? What do you think of them? Would you choose another brand name of outboard like Suzuki?

I went over one and looked a couple in a boat show a few years ago while boat shopping and talked to the salesman,
I think a 90hp is seriously underpowered, maybe even a 115. I would defiently put a yamaha 150, or suzuki 150 or 140 on it.
ALL of the motors on the market today are quality and proven, the only question is which brand has the best service in your area.
-Suzuki's seem to be becoming very popular, and i have not heard of any major or re occuring problems.
-Mercury Verados initially had some problems when first released, but they have had the bugs worked out and seem to be a great engine
-Yamaha are the standard issue engine, but recently have been having corrosion problems.
-Etecs are also becoming very popular, and proven.

With a boat that size and putting a brand new engine on, whether four stroke or 2 stroke and whats available today, there will be very little difference in the gas consumption, the efficieny of boat engines have come along way in 2 and 4stroke in the last 10 years.

My first choice would be a suzuki i think, then an etec.

90hp motor should power that boat no problem, it's less than 1300lbs.
A friend of mine has the 1725 adventurer with a 60hp Yam.
No problem with hole shot or planeing.
(He's 6'8" and 260lbs)
If you were going to have a family of 4 aboard, the 115hp would be
better suited.

I would take that boat out in some chop before buying. There is nothing wrong with the quality of the Harbercraft but I would look at other brands because of the ride. I had 2003 model 2025 with a 140hp suzuki which was just enough motor. The hull on this model was great but they have since changed the design. The way things are now you can get a lot of boat for 31k and towing a 20-21' boat should be no problem with a 1/2 ton.

they are very nice boats. i tried to purchase one before doing the build on reelfast. they were changing their model lineup so we never could come to terms regarding what specifically i wanted in a boat as they had dropped the configuration i wanted from their product list.

i would also advise the yamaha 150. this is a totally bullet proof engine and probably among the best in their linup of products. because it is 4 cylinders, you are going to be saving lots on fuel consumption.

sticking with an aluminum hull automatically reduces your boat weight. you are going to be some 30-40% less in overall weight vs a fiberglass hull. that means you can tow with that half ton, i do. reelfast, wet weight, is 6,100# add 1,700# for the trailer and my half ton is happy. same boat spec in fiberglass puts the wet weight at approximately 9,000-9,500# and i would have had to use 6 cylinder engines to get the same performance as the 150s on reelfast plus moving to a 3/4 ton truck.

Thank you for the replies. I will have to take it out on the water before I purchase for sure. I will check out a few fiberglass models as well since they will be in similar price range.

I had a 2003 Harbercraft 1825 with a 90 Suzi and a 6 Suzi kicker. The 90 was plenty for that boat even with four people. For the 1925, I'd suggest the 115 as a minimum but I like the Suzi 140 for that set-up. Make sure you take it for a spin first tho...I sold mine before I moved back to the coast as they are light hulls and pound pretty darn hard.

Good luck with your boat hunting and let us know what you decide to buy.
