Halibut or salmon

Is there any spots within half hour from pat bay I could try for halibut after dropping prawn traps? How's the winter springs out that way. Going out tomorrow and going to practice anchoring for a bit while traps are down but would like to put a line in the water as well

There was a lot of discussion about this down on the docks while I was there. For a couple of reasons:
#1) You got five gazillion prawn traps soaking in and around pat Bay. That is one heck of a scent trail to draw in halibut.
#2) You pull up crabs, octopus and flounder/sole in the traps. All good halibut food.
#3) You,re prawning at 210' in and around pinnacles. All good halibut habitat.

So yeah. Thats all I know about that. Alot of talk ... no action
try it and tell us about it

We got a hali last weekend 20 min ride out of the inlet while our pots were soaking and we are heading back again this weekend. It was awesome as prawning was not that great for us ( The biggest prawns were the ones in the hali’s belly ). I have fished the inlet for halibut 4 times in the last two years without a bite ( other than a huge skate )but that does not mean that they are not there. It is a great spot for training rookies how to anchor properly and set up gear.

good day for prawns practised anchoring a couple of times i think it will be quite a bit different with a good tide rip . caught 1 small ling and did see a couple salmon jumping in the bay

there should be feeder springs around right now, wain rock and pat bay is a good place to start. There is halibut within a reasonable run of the inlet, but don't think anybody is going to give up their spot.
