Hey everyone
I have recently started to target hali by drifting since my boat is too small to anchor aafely and i was just curious what areas other people drift and what is succesfull to use. I currently have one rod down with a spreader bar and circle hook and another rod i actively jig. Until know ive drifted the Albert head reef a few times with no success any good spots to drift or methods?Only fish when there is a slack and slow currents and using herring as bait.Checked the posts but didint see any with that much info about drifting those areas so figured to post.

sounds to me like your doing everything right

I used to drift just like that before I got an anchor, but never got a hali drifting tho

I’ve done ok drifting over a pinnacle trying to land on top and then continuing to try to touch going down the other side. I’ve back trolled, to stay on the spot.

I prefer a double hook setup over a single circle hook but I’ve done ok with circle hooks and salmon heads.
yup ive been targeting a few pinnacles at albert head and also drifted on the mudflaps but to be fair it has been slow for almost everyone this week only a few were caught

A drift anchor is a big help. Also, long cylinder shaped weights seem be less prone to snagging and hanging up on rocks compared to round ball weights. Circle hooks are also less prone to snagging the bottom compared to J hooks.

If you go by the usual dogfish to hali ratio, you may be a bit..... ;););)

yup have drift socks on both sides of the boat so go pretty slow in terms of the drif just not sure which area would be best to drift in to be honest i triest albert head a few days and the mudflaps 2 or 3 times thinking of trying the waterfront in the next few days if weather is good

X2 on the drift sock. We switched to more of a cylindrical shaped 1 and 2 lb weight last year and wow what a game changer. Less drag and less snags
