Guides - TC "CDN" Number?

HiYa,

Wondering if any of the other guides are aware of Transport Canada's "CDN" (Canadian Document Number)? I was just now informed by TC that we ALL have to have one of these for our various Certifications to be valid. Went through each of my Certificates with them, and while there is indeed a space on each for that number, there simply isn't one there. They noted this was instituted before last year's training sessions, and mandatory as of then. Further noted that it was the responsibility of the Training Provider to ensure we knew this and collected that number...

Easy enough to get under most circumstances: Either take in your ID to TC or have that notorized and sent in via mail. Pain in the butt in my case. Landed Immigrants are required to have a Permanent Resident Card (something I have never even heard of before now despite having called Canada home for the last 47 years!!) so even more hoops to jump through!

Cannot believe how convoluted this entire mess has become! If I didn't know better (and I actually don't) I'd think that these roadblocks were intentionally being put in our way in an effort to dissuade us from being completely legit!!

Damn Frustrated at this point!

the government does not want terrorists to learn "aids to navigation" the candidate number isn't hard to get ,, but ya, a pain in the arse.

Lol! I know when I had to drive to Nanaimo just to get the silly number it was frustrating considering I had my passport, SIN card, DL, Birth certificate, etc etc etc.... all those did a better job of identifying me than a CDN #! But the lady in dungeon in the Canada building at TC informed me it's only necessary so that in 'their' computer system is able to track us.

huh... revenue canada seems to be able to find people pretty fast in their system! LMAO!

Hey Nog, let's bring this up at the West Coast Fishing Guides Association meeting this coming Sunday. I'm sure Owen can help track down if those of us who had all our training done years ago are now required to re-certify. I can't imagine an RCMP officer on the water being worried about a stupid number on your certificate - the whole purpose of the program is to raise the standard of professional care of commercial operators, not create run around. By taking all your courses and ensuring your boat passes the self inspection you have demonstrated proficiency. I'm not planning on notarizing my own forms even though I can do it for free....and if you want yours done, I can notarize it for you.

it is not a matter of re-certify, it is a matter of big brother keeping track of us. you need to add your candidate number to your certificates, yes , pain in the arse

I was just out there doing all the courses (SVOP,Med A3,MBFA), I wasn't even allowed to register for the courses without my CDN#. The only documents I have without it now are my ROC-M, I've had it so long, I had to redo it for the DCS cert. a few years ago.

The worst part is the permanent residence
card isn't permanent. You have to renew it every five years.
