Not in a good way either, rock fish quill to the back of the hand hurts like a *****.
any good cure ?
i don't have the fish to cut open the eyeball...
vinegar ?

Good Luck with that. Did it last year with a finger. Opened it up and squeezed as much blood out of the deep puncture as I could to wash out the very nasty bacteria that rockfish quills are covered in. Still got an infection and ended up on antibiotics.

I dropped a rockfish once (I was a biologist on a ship and was trying to measure it on a board and it flipped off the table)

I had multiple spines, probably the whole freaking dorsal quiver, pierce my thigh and knee---swelled up like a football. Waited it out and it finally went away after a few days. Scared the hell out of me once it swelled up but I was out in the middle of the Bering Sea and just had to live with it

Wash the wound as best you can, then hope you don't see any redness going up your arm because you know what that means. I've also had dogfish spines in the hand---swelling, redness, but to date, never had to resort to antibiotics.

There is some discussion about the effects of getting stuck with a venomous spine (severity depends on which spine and how deep). No details about what to do after getting stuck except "wash promptly or infection will ensur" or something along those lines

this is great info about the eye juice,,i had never heard of that before and i have not ever been stung by a rock fish,,but if i do now i know,,thanks for the great info,,that's what i like about this web site,,most guys on this are great,,getting real good info from you guys,,thanks

We had a buddy last year take some jelly fish sum of the DR line then rub his eye. Holy fack was he in pain. We kept trying to tell him to let us **** in his eye. He wasnt having it.

I know the fix... It's not hard..Well maybe it is..

Get your self a stiff drink I prefer straight up. Dip you finger in the drink and rub the wound. Then have a drink. Repeat as necessary till the pain is gone.

Works for lots of different aches... Scott you should know this

If you lost the first rockfish, hit a kelp bed and jig up another for an eyeball organ donor! Then go home and drink. I have had the jellyfish and the rockfish stings and a strong antihistamine keeps the pain and swelling down a bit. Be careful with the cough syrop antihistamines and alcohol though. Oops...LOL. No operating machinery, texting, emailing, or doing anything you might regret.....You won't feel the rockfish sting though.
