GoPro video of my crab trap @ 103 feet

I made it out on the water this past Monday and finally decided to put the GoPro in the crab trap. It was already late in the day (2pm) and in 103 feet of water, I wasn't expecting to see much on the video. It's still a bit green and gets darker as the sun sets, but I was pretty impressed with the light at that depth, not to mention the number of small fish dining on provided bait.

Cool Video! Once the crabs started tearing apart your bait and chumming the water things really got going! I will definitely be trying this out this summer.......:)

Very cool, lots of activity down there as the time progresses, for sure - I love at the 7 min mark where the Flounder/Sole seemed to be attacking the blinking red light on the camera numerous times! Hilarious and very interesting at the same time.

I saw several edits during the 17 min vid. I am just curious how much 'real' time does that 17 min video represent ??

This is the GoPro Hero 3 Silver. It was about $300 at West Marine (the cheapest anywhere!). Yes, I did alot of editing of this video. I had about 2.5 hours of video to go through and left in the highlights. I'll be doing it again soon I'm sure.

Here's a video (not shot with a GoPro) of me pulling up the trap with the crabs from this GoPro video, and cooking some of them, less than 10 minutes out of the water Freshest/best crab I've ever had.

It's amazing how many of those little oval shaped fish there are around-what are they called again?

Some kind of Ocean Perch?

I think some of those may be shiners ( sea perch) as you say Carl . In the winter I think they move from the shallow areas around docks/pilings and move to the deeper areas - Winter chinook often feed on them so hence why in winter spoons with shiner perch colours do well.

In summer these are the small perch that kids catch off the docks - and we used to use for live bait catching lingcod a long time ago ( 3-4 decades ago!)

oh c'mon now Greg you woulda been just a shiner yourself 4 decades ago:D

Glad that door on the right eventually closed for you. Just wondering if anyone has tried putting a bit of lead on the doors to keep them closed. I believe I've had door problems in the past, the GoPro video confirms it Thanks!

I use old tire weights, they crimp right on.

Never tried doing the crab straight to the BBQ.
How long do you leave them on there?
Or is it just till they turn red like you're boiling them?

It must have been only 15 minutes on the grill. It was dark so I didn't catch if it changed colour or not, we just grabbed it from the bbq and ate it as we drove home in the dark. Would recommend!
