GoPro Camera Questions

Just made a torpedo mount for the GoPro and was wondering how you guys have rigged them. I made this one and filled the front end with blue rigid foam so it would float. I also fitted and small zinc to the bottom so the camera would stay level. Tried quite a few drops and adjustments to see what I could see. The mount seem to want to float up in the butt end the first couple drops. Tried pointing the camera up to compensate. Then tried different drop backs from the downrigger clips 8 ft seemed the best. Then mounted a clip right off the butt end of the torpedo. I was wondering what you guys do? Any tips?

I know CrabbyChris made one of his own gopro casing for tuna fishin he has pics of it in the tuna tackle topic somewhere about #70

Thanks that is exactly what I was looking for. I knew I saw it somewhere on here, and thats is how I designed this one from memory. I think I will shorten up the body for less drag. What I would like to know is where you would set the clip, above/below/off the camera. How for back. Thanks for any tips.

Anymore design info or how to on gopro downrigger case

Looking at getting a hero3 silver, not sure I like the dive housing bolted to lead ball.

Kind of like a 100% secure method of putting gopro downn 100Ft.

Or can anyone point me to a DIY housing.

No way of 100% return..braid or wire can fray and snap anywhere between rigger and lead.
I bolt mine to the ball(weight keeps the camera steady) and say goodbye to it every time i drop.i also re-tie terminal gear every trip to help my piece of mind.
summer filming tho the water is murky is a lot better than dragging bottom for winters with $400 cannon balls
I found the towing rigs hard to stabilize..and no means of post stabilization as there is no reference to work off down there.

I'm finding it difficult to stabilize my tow housing. I built a similar PVC pipe unit but I can't get it to track steady. I added more weight and if that doesn't work I'm going to increase the fin size. I also haven't tried to make it buoyant yet and that will probably change the dynamics also. Lots of trial and error.

For those who have attached a release clip right to the tow unit, do you find the flasher action causes camera shake?

If I resolve my issues I'll post some schematics ( drawn on a bar napkin with a crayon).

Since my earlier design I have shorten up the housing as short as I could. Centre pipe is now only as long as the weight. I have also shorten up the release clip leader to about 4"-5". The Flasher has not caused any shake at all. I would post a video but it is a mp4 file and I don't have a clue as how to post it.

Have you guys tried putting an eyelit on the top of the go pro case and attaching a string to it which is tied to the boat. that way if something happens, you will still be able to retrieve your camera and case...Just a thought. I havent made one yet but now that I have an idea how, I might play around with it.

Westburg, Have you tried that setup yet? and is the red part ,your weight? It looks interesting, and if it tracks cleanly with not too much shake, might just make some great videos. Let us know---- thanks

JUST ONE MORE, this is not my setup. I googled it and want to build one. I got this from http://trollpro.com/ and am thinking I can make it. wish me luck

I use the gopro editing tool free download it's ok but i'm planning on using the powerdirector 12 or 13 , pretty awsme .. makes your vids a hell of a lot sharper from what i've seen and more bells and whistles then the gopro editing tool.

I use the go pro software. its pretty good. you can add music or titles in the video, crop it and then when your done, choose whether to save it for mobile, you tube, 1080 or 780. Very user friendly.

Casper, can you take a picture of your setup and post it on here?

Hero v1 still does 1080 at 30fps at a much lower cost than the newer models..
Try getting enough light at 120fps,60fps even gets grainy after the gain gets auto ramped in low light.100ft at 30fps at 4k?50 at 2.7k? Id really like to see some examples..winter water maybe, summer cloud, not so sure..

Unless this is for a theater.1080p is all yer tv can do..had mine bolted to the ball all summer, over 30 deployments.

Hero 1 ebay $125
Troll pro. $145
