‘Ultimate Adventure Weekend for the Mentally Challenged’

September 11th to 13th, 2009

On a Floating Lodge
in Historic Nootka Sound
West Coast of Vancouver Island

Events include:
• Salt-water guided fishing
• Dock Casting Competition
• Prawning and Crabbing
• Beach Scavenger Hunt
• Vocal & Improv Workshop with Joelle Rabu
• Karaoke Night by the Fire
• Kayaking, Peddle and Row Boat Fun
• Wildlife Sightseeing Adventure
• Dock Fishing

This no-cost weekend for mentally challenged teens or
adults * includes all meals, snacks, accommodations,
activities, transportation from Moutcha Bay to the Lodge.

****Must be accompanied by at least one personal caregiver.

****At cost price per caregiver is $499.00 (all inclusive**)
and will be required to participate in all activities.

*Must be physically able due to logistics of a floating lodge & boats
**Salt water fishing licences and gratuities are not included.

Providing there is enough interest expressed, we can arrange for a
shuttle bus from Nanaimo, Courtenay or Campbell River.

Kevin-- Great contribution by the lodge. Our club hosts a number of organizations for the mentally challenged ( and physically handicapped ) as our part of the Fishing Forever program. It is nowhere near as expansive as what you are offering, but I am sure you will enjoy the results as much as we do.

For example, we had a bunch of seniors come out to try trout fishing in our stocked pond. One non-communicative old guy just started to beam when he saw the fish his cohorts were catching. I started to ask him if he had ever fished.. he had trouble voicing what he was thinking but I finally figured out he was telling me about fishing trout in Comox lake in the 1930s. His caregiver told me he had been a logger then,, but in recent years he had drawn into his shell as his ability to communicate dwindled.

It gave us a great feeling that in a small way we were able to make one day enjoyable for them. I am sure you will experince that feeling too.
