Getting a fishing rod for Christmas – which one?

Trotac has Trophy Titan rods on sale for $100 off MSRP.
There was about 6 of each 10'6 and 9' left in stock.
Salesman said they are being discontinued.
Outfit I charter with in WH uses the Trophy 10'6 on their boats. That's a tough rod if it stands up to charter guest use.

The old ones were great. The new ones with the plastic reel seats blow up.

The blank. I snapped two new ones in a row after running the old ones for 4 or 5 seasons with no issues.
Have heard this about several rod brands, Shimano Technium for example. Manufacturer realises they've made the blanks way too bulletproof to generate repeat sales, so they redesign and hope people will come back to replace broken rods with the same one. As if!

Apparently Shimano switched their Technium blanks for a year (?) or two and they had issues BUT for the 2025 models they went back to the same materials as before that change so the 2025 now (dark blue with very slight cross weave look in the paint and the rubber lower handle/butt are back to the original quality that earned their great rep. I am not sure but I think they dropped the TC4 glass mix with the graphite during that year or two period but for 2025 they brought back the TC4..... as how I heard it.

Warning about the REEF rod is that apparently the reel seat can end up being too small in length to accommodate some multiplier or level wind reel types which could be an issue for especially those in Puget Sound that like to use that type of reel salmon trolling. I often use a Shimano Talicia 10 or Avet SX on a mooching rod for my middle rigger down the middle and have had no issues fitting it on reel seat of either my Lamigalss 10 6 or my Shim Tech. & Conv. 10 6 rods.
