Cheaper than what most of us spend on fishing! :D

Remember, it's called "fishing," not "catching."

If that's the one that i saw at Ganders taxidermy some years ago then i believe it. It was caught a long time ago in a gill net at Rivers Inlet and was so much larger than an 86 lber i saw in person in the late 8o's at West Coast Tackle in their freezer. [:0]

Half the point to a mount is to boast a personal acheivement and and to display the beauty of the fish you took. For only a few thousand you could enlist the services of a replica artist that would not only match the size of that particular fish ,but I am sure it would also look much nicer than the older methods used on that particular mount. My point is that if it isn't your catch anyways then the sky is the limit if you just get a replica made.

Some of those fibreglass replicas are damn nice.

Wickipedia

quote:The chinook salmon is blue-green on the back and top of the head with silvery sides and white ventral surfaces. It has black spots on its tail and the upper half of its body; its mouth is dark gray. Adult fish range in size from 33 to 36 inches (840 to 910 mm), but may be up to 58 inches (1.47 meters) in length; they average 10 to 50 pounds (4.54 to 22.7 kg), but may reach 130 pounds (59 kg). The current sport caught World Record is 97 pounds 4 ounces (44.1 kg) and was caught in May 1985 by Les Anderson in the Kenai River (Kenai, Alaska). The commercial catch world record is 126 pounds (57 kg) caught near Petersburg, Alaska in a fish trap in 1949.[1]

While it may seem picky to call the supposed 127.5 lb fish out.. I just dont believe that a mount of a world record salmon taken in 1949 near Petersburg Ak. in a fish trap , has shown up on Craigslist!!! In Nanaimo fer crying out loud!!!!! Also the official weight for the record is 126lbs. Not 127.5

Fibreglass copies of that hog netted near Rivers have been kicking around for years now, one used to hang in the old South Terminal @ YVR and Yes it was a monster, also made the front cover of a long gone BC Fishing mag.

that's some fish :D:D

in the olden days, guys would kill their trophy, take it to the taxidermist who would skin the now black skin, dry it and then stretch it on a wooden plug. he would then proceed to paint the now totally ugly skin as best he could.

now adays, you can take a bunch of photos, make a few measurements, turn that trophy loose, and come up with a wonderful expertly painted fiberglass replica. that is of course, if the woman will let 'yah hang it someplace other than the back of the garage :)

my 18lb steelly glass rep hangs over my t.v in the living room . wife loves it lol . i`m a lucky guy

tight lines

yah my replica would probably be in our storage room on the floor right beside my caribou mount!!!:(
