Gas tank security

Well nice surprise today , went to go fishing , prawning etc , I usually put the ears on the motors and run them up to ensure spending no time at all on the dock after launch , and they won't start , primer bulb from tank to water separator is flat ..................hmmmmmmmmmmmmm !
Pump like mad nothing ! ......check gas gauge empty !!!! ; some lousy scum bag siphoned my tank dry (155 liters = 178.00)
Question would it be better to install a locking gas cap or will those insert anti siphon rigs do the trick ?
In other words are they easy to get out ? or ..........??

Either way I guess it did. But if someone did it, the guy or gal went through a lot of trouble for 178 bucks.
Was it moored or in the driveway?

Parked beside the house , we are at the end of a long driveway off of a cul de sac , very private with green zones on both sides , were away from the house for 3 days last week but neighbours at bottom of the hill noticed nothing out of the ordinary , there is a trail out the back way to the road up above which wold provide great cover for someone to sneak in and pack away a load of gas , needless to say that trail now has some surprises !

Wow that sounds crazy and a pain in the A$%. I would be ticked. Could it have a leak into hull or ground?

Nope it would have had to drain from the main tank to the bilge and thence out the plug hole , no smell in bilge , no stain around plug hole or on the ground , nothing under the hull.
My boat has a 50 US gallon tank.
But did not have any anti theft devices on the gas port .
In to Duncan tomorrow and looking into putting in one of those anti siphon devices.

So the gasoline was the most valuable item around the house and boat? And that involves hoses, 6 25L jerry cans, you gotto come prepared.....Hmmm

If my boys were still home I might consider that aspect but they are gone now.
Definitely someone moved hard and fast on this no doubt.

a good friend of mine let his brother stay at his rental house for two months this winter for FREE. Last week he went to get his boat out of the shop there and take it for a test. Thats when he realized his bro had sucked out 120 gallons of fuel. His brother moved out 2 weeks prior and hasn't been heard from since. Remember you can pick your friends not your family

Just leave a jerry can of gas in the boat that's primed with sugar. Next time you see someone pushing something in your neighbourhood, you'll know they got what they deserved. Just to be safe you had better get that locking cap so they don't return the favor.

Had some gas stolen at our family cabin last year. The idiot put 50:1 mixed gas into his pickup truck. It wasn't too hard to figure out that it was a renter from down the beach that did it. At least I got the satisfaction that he messed up his truck with it... Unfortunately, he also stole all my fishing gear. Cops couldn't "prove" it, but he was caught in another person's shed a few weeks later "borrowing" some power equipment.

Installed anti-siphon plugs in the gas tank lines , that should hold her for awhile I hope.
