Will a 3xxx work as a monitor display for a 5xxx system?????

yes i think all the newer generation garmin head units are compatible.. just check the specs that they both read the same nmea data

5012: NMEA 0183, NMEA 2000
3010: NMEA 0183

so make sure your instruments (sonar, radar, gps) / network are running on nmea 0183 and your good to go

Will have to research NEMA 0183, to be honest I am limited in this knowledge, was gonna hook it up to my Garmin network port

Just want to monitor either sounder or radar while the 5xxx monitors the most important the, chartplotter
