Fishery Notice - Fisheries and Oceans Canada

Subject: FN1202-Notice of 2014/2015 Pacific Herring Food and Bait and Special Use Commercial Fishing Plans available for public comment.

Fisheries and Ocean Canada is soliciting comments regarding two appendices to
the 2014/2015 Pacific Herring Integrated Fisheries Management Plan (IFMP); the
Food and Bait and Special Use herring appendices.

The documents are available for review and comment by contacting Roger Kanno at
(604) 666-7851 or roger.kanno@dfo-mpo.gc.ca. The food and bait and special use
herring fisheries are anticipated to commence on November 7, 2014.

The initial catch targets for the food and bait herring fishery are 8,500 short
tons in the Strait of Georgia and 500 tons in the Prince Rupert District areas
only. There may be an amendment required to the food and bait fishing plan once
harvest levels are established for development of the draft commercial roe
herring fishing plan and additional advice is received from the Herring
Industry Advisory Board.

The catch target for the special use fishing plan is 932 tons.

The development of the remainder of the 2014/2015 Pacific herring IFMP and
associated appendices is expected to be undertaken over the next month with a
target date for the release of the draft consolidated 2014/2015 Pacific Herring
IFMP of early December 2014, with a 30 day comment period.

A separate fishery notice detailing the licensing process for the food and bait
fishery will be posted and area selection is scheduled to take place from 08:30
hours Wednesday November 5, 2014 to 23:59 hours Thursday November 6, 2014.
