Hey folks,

We're coming up there for about a month this summer with the family. I looking for any ideas of cool places out in the sound to get off the boat and explore. Are there any places to hop off with out a dingy? Should I bring that stupid little inflatable space hog or can I leave it home?? Hopping off the boat for a few off hours each day greatly increases everyones toleance of my fishing habit. It eailsy turns overnight trips into 3-4 day excrusions.

Thanks

You can explore around winter harbour and the board walk-it's kind of interesting-you can also get off around Koprino. There are very few other places I would run a boat up on the beach unless it was tin and easy to move. If you feel the need to get off I would bring the inflatable but be warned the area is rain forest and wilderness with few trails. I would be very cautious about letting members of my family off in the bush. There are lots of bears and cougars-plus the ability to get well and truly lost is very definitly a possibility. A 20 mile ride up the coast takes you to the start of San Jose Bay-good fishing-good trails and beaches. There are fishing tie -up floats

Thanks Spring,

Thanks for the warnings, fully understand the self reliance concept. Have travled lots with the wife and kids in the sea of cortez, but it's kinda scary in Mexico now. First explored the PNW last summer with just me and the guys. We took the boat to Nootka and Caamano Sound (out of Kitimat)and had a great time, but being just guys had no reason to get off the boat. This year though the family wants to go have fun too.

A few specifics??

Are all the floats/bouys in San Jose area in Sea Otter??

You said very few places?? Thats kinda what I was asking for. Are there any nice protected sandy/small gravel like beaches that you could access with a glass boat. You know drop the wife off and then use a pully or anchor buddy to put the boat out a bit for a couple hours?? Not gonna let the boat out of site, just let folks to stretch their legs.

Is hiking from Browning to Grants resonable?

Is Kalsikino worth visiting, heard there are some floats there? Would the prawn and crab traps see any action?

Thankd Jody
