Fuel supply diagram for Mercury 115

Just in the final process of hooking up my new to me 2024 Mercury 115. Can some give advise on the best way to plumb the fuel supply lines from the tank. Currently it goes:
Tank-water separator-line to kicker and line to main.
I haven’t yet but will install a primer bulb after the water separator for the kicker.

Do I need a primer bulb between tank and water separator? Or any shut off valves?

When I went for a test run at the lake my main died of fuel starvation. I think it was cause I didn’t have my kicker connected. Is their anything I need to do to the main once I complete the fuel supply?

I don't know all the answers but when I redid my fuel lines my research lead me to decide to put anti-syphon valves after the water separator. Knock on wood I have never hard fuel starvation issues.

Gas tanks from the States have a anti-siphon fitting at the top before the hose attaches. Your tank won't drain if the hose is cut.
The anti-siphon fittings at the fuel/water separator will prevent fuel rob from those lines.
When changing the filter there should not be a loss of fuel. try using an ice cream pail to catch any loss.
A shut off valve at the entrance to the fuel /water separator is a good idea, re fuel loss or thieves.
