Fuel Prices

At what price point do you change your fishing plans because of the cost of fuel. With the current trend it looks like gasoline will be pushing $1.60 liter at some of the more remote areas. Glad I replaced my old Mercs with E-TECS last year

i stopped fishing tahsis for this reason.... and now i use the law of thirds... 1/3 for getting there, one third for getting back, and 1/3 for just in case... this way i am not carrying a full fuel tank. seems to help the gph.

I watch the weather extremly carefully if I'm towing to Winter Harbour (cole Hrbr)-I make sure that if I tow all that way-there is no questionable weather going to stop me fishing. I do what I can and sleep on the hook as close to the fishing grounds as is safe-other than that -it.s the cost of doing business!!!

No changes here...gotta pay to play....I compare it to owning a pickup truck or big SUV and talking gas mileage:confused:...or over extending your self with a huge loan payment, only to complain when interest jumps a point.

might be some people out there that have their big gas pigs, that in the very near future second guessing puchase of such rigs, IMO they could not afford such a rig in the first place....this goes for any kind of motorized vehicle/boat out there.

on the water for some fisheries(and some of us guys;)), it could be a blessing or a curse depending on how you look at it, less traffic in some WCVI area's, but other closer urban or ECVI area's, might get hit even harder.

getting back to your question... for me, again no changes,I just filler-up when needed.

Ferry costs going up , fuel going up, it's going to be pretty costly for you mainland guys.

the price of fish in the grocery store is going up also .just tell the wife it's still evens out. can't cut back on the pops either!
rum chum.

Cost of doing business...mine burns 17 US Gallooons an hour, so about the only thing I'm going to do is make sure I fart out back to help her along. Comfort comes with a cost, and my back is worth it.

Judging by the increase of boats iv'e seen out on the banks the past few years, WCVI,
gas prices are NOT a concern to most , mind you , inshore had less pressure , due to NOT alot of fish for most...
Fished Tofino's yard a few times last later summer , Pretty Busy Bank ..
hearing more boats heading to the nook and bamfield , and BIGGER !!
fishing decreases inshore , offshore it is , "Lets Geta Bigger Boat " lol

funny , but true...

I will be interested to see if the number of American visiters goes down this year. Combination of the economy , fuel prices and the strong Canadian dollar may keep at home

We won't be seeing many American's up here for a few years. I'll say 5 minimum. The dollar isn't the biggest factor, their own economy is. I doubt many are even traveling even within their own country. The wealthy who have been coming up here for years are still coming for the most part. Just not spending as much once they get here. It's going to be survival mode for anyone in the tourism industry for awhile.

Big is beautiful...fat bottom girls make the rockin world go around!;)

i now have my season non-resident BC license so i, at least, intend to cross the international boundary on the strait to catch a few fish. lodges?? nope, way too expensive in BC, far better pricing by flying to warmer climates, think costa rica here and big mean trophy sized saltwater fishes. 7 day all inclusive packages for the same price as 3 days of the same in BC. it's not rocket science to figure out how to spend the bucks.

Fill your boots, we'll know your sleeping in your truck by the down wind smell. :D Comfort comes at a price, and I don't mind paying for that. If your concerned about price gouging, I seriously doubt there is any comparison on the cost of doing business between here and costa rica. It's really all about the value you place on the experience, and clearly salmon and halibut fishing isn't high on your list of experiences No point crying over pricing, none of these operators are getting rich. Just go and do what makes you happy.

Reelfast..sounds like there has been a big time shift in thinking south of the border. Cheap is better. Guess that is why everything in now made in China and not the USA. Would you buy your next Chevy or Ford if they were made in Costa Rica? LOL

It does not matter what the price of fuel is. We will still be out there. Just like the cost of licenses and ferries. Nothing stops a fisherman from doing what he loves to do.
