Freak Accident - but something to be aware of.

Who leaves their rods in the rocket launchers during transport though?! Unless, maybe he forgot....? At 15' in the air a low branch could snap them all in half. I personally stow my gear away safe.

I saw someone pulling into Gold River once he's obviously left his rods in the holder all the way from Tahsis-I was going to say something but with someone that dumb it wouldn't have made a difference.

I see it all the time and just shake my head. It's like they are putting them out there for display. Some people just don't get it

I store my rods in verticle rod holders, along with the landing net, untill after putting the boat back on the trailer. At times the launch area is very busy, and on a few occasions I have driven some distance from the boat ramp before storing the rods and net. I find myself constantly checking the mirrors when I do this (distracted driving?). I can see it happening though.

many years ago, I was fishing with a friend on the Thompson river at a pool called "Roadside" which is literally right along Highway 1. He had caught a snag with his spoon in the water and was flipping his rod to dislodge the spoon. He was able to dislodge the spoon and it came out of the water like a missile, over his head onto the highway and hooked up right into the trailer of a semi doing 60 m.p.h. We watched the line "melt" off his reel until every inch was gone. Couldn't help but laugh at the thought of that trucker when he stops and sees that he was the big one that got away......

Hahahahaha. That's funny. That happened on the Gorge bridge with a herring fisher one day. He put his rod back getting ready to cast and hooked a vehicle. It spooled him.
